John the Apostle was one of Jesus Christ’s twelve disciples and a prominent leader in the early Christian church. He is generally listed as the youngest apostle and is also known as Saint John the Beloved. He was the son of Zebedee, a Galilean fisherman, and Salome. In his own gospel, he refers to himself as “the one whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23). He was present when Jesus died, watching with Jesus’ mother and other women as the Son of God cried out to his Father. John is remembered for his close personal relationship with Jesus and for serving important roles in His ministry.
