Saint Matthew

Saint Matthew was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He is traditionally regarded as the author of the first Gospel and was a tax collector in Capernaum before Jesus invited him to follow him and become an apostle. He is celebrated by the Church on September 21st, and is the patron saint of bookkeepers and bankers. He is portrayed in various locations around the world, including at the Basilica in Rome.
